What is visual identity?
By Jose Santiago Mateos, founder of AsesMarket · Updated October 2026
Visual identity (also called corporate identity) is the set of graphic elements that make a brand recognisable: the logo, colours, typefaces, icons and image style. It's gathered in brand guidelines so that it's applied the same way on your premises, website, social media and printed material. Ideally, it's built on a clear brand strategy.
What it's for

- You save on every pieceWith the brand manual and the files, any new design comes out faster and error-free.
Who it's for
- Businesses opening up that need their first image.
- Brands with a rushed logo that no longer represents them.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about visual identity, no small print.
01How much does designing a visual identity cost?
It depends on the applications you need and whether we're starting from scratch. After the first call we give you a fixed price that includes the proposals, the two rounds of changes, the brand manual and the files.
02How long does it take?
About three weeks from the briefing to delivery. Your total time commitment is about three hours.
03What are brand guidelines?
It's the document that explains how to use your identity: logo versions, colours with their codes, typefaces, spacing, minimum sizes and correct and incorrect uses. It means any supplier applies your brand in the same way.
04What's the difference between a logo and a visual identity?
A logo is one piece; visual identity is the complete system: logo, colours, typefaces, graphic elements and the rules for using them together.
05How many proposals will I see?
Two or three creative routes at the start and two rounds of changes on the one you choose.
06Do I need a brand strategy first?
That's ideal, because the design comes from the brand strategy. If you don't have one, we hold a briefing session at the start to define the basics.
07Will the logo be mine?
Yes. When we finish, we hand over all the files and the usage rights to the final design.
08Can you update my current logo?
Yes. If your brand is already well known, it's sometimes better to modernise it rather than change it: that's what we do in rebranding. We'll look at it on the first call.
09In what formats do you deliver it?
In SVG, PNG and PDF, in colour, black and white, ready for web, social media and print.
10What do I need to provide?
About three hours in total: the briefing, the session to choose a direction and the handover. Plus reviewing the proposals over two rounds of changes.
Shall we give your brand a face?
Tell us what you sell and in 30 minutes we'll tell you how we'd approach it.
